Restored to God's Grace
“Restore us to thyself, O Lord, that we may be restored!” — Lamentations 5:21
In God’s infinite and incredible mercy, He has given us the gift of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. “The whole power of the sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation) consists in restoring us to God’s Grace and joining us with Him in an intimate friendship.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1468)
Christ's Ministry of Mercy
“Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” — John 20:22–23
Christ gave a particular ministry of reconciliation to the apostles, and by extension, bishops and priests. A priest therefore acts in persona Christi, “in the person of Christ.” He does not forgive sins by his own holiness or personal power. Christ is the one who forgives; the priest serves as Christ’s authorized sacramental instrument.
Preparing for First Confession
To prepare to receive Confession for the first time, our Partners-in-Faith Faith Formation program is designed to form the whole family. Classes are for children from Transitional Kindergarten through their celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation — and while youth are in their classes, parents participate in adult formation and fellowship led by our Director of Faith Formation, Cynthia Mulcaire.
For more information and to register, visit our Children’s Faith Formation page. You can also contact our Faith Formation Ministry at 530-677-3234 or by email at ffm@holytrinityparish.org.
Reconciliation Through OCIA
Confession is also part of the Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA), a unique process for adults, youth, and children who desire to grow in their relationship with God through the Catholic faith — primarily for those who are unbaptized, and for baptized Christians interested in exploring Catholicism or completing their initiation.
Come Receive God's Mercy
Confessions are heard every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the Church Confessional, or by appointment.
